The 5-foot-9, 130-pound junior distance talent won the mile event at the HOKA Festival of Miles this past season, breaking the tape with a time of 3:58.65 to set a state record. The clocking ranked No. 1 nationally among boys prep competitors this spring. Nauman also won the 800-, 1600- and 3200-meter runs at the Class 3A state meets, setting state records in the 800 (1:49.41) and 1600 (3:59.60) while distinguishing himself as the first prep runner in U.S. history to break 1:50 in the 800 and 4 minutes in the 1600 on the same day. His 1600 mark also ranked No. 1 nationally at the time of his selection. He capped his spring by winning the national title in the mile at Nike Outdoor Nationals.
Nauman has maintained a 3.90 GPA in the classroom. He will begin his senior year of high school this fall.
A member of the Western Dubuque High student advisory committee, Nauman has volunteered locally with Western’s Service Day and as a youth track coach. He has also donated his time to multiple community service initiatives through his church.
