The 5-foot-10, 130-pound senior won the Class A state meet this past season with a time of 15:15.8, breaking the tape 6.5 seconds ahead of his next-closest competitor and leading the Patriots to third place as a team. A transfer from Timberline (Idaho) High, Ihmels took 14th at the Nike Cross Heartland Regional Championships and finished 35th at the Foot Locker Midwest Regional Championships. He was unbeaten against in-state competition. His younger sister, Ruby, is the 2024-25 North Dakota Girls Cross Country Player of the Year.
Ihmels has maintained a weighted 4.07 GPA in the classroom. He remains undecided upon a collegiate destination.
Ihmels has built a computer from scratch and has volunteered locally at youth cross country and track meets.
