“Sydney has a dominating presence on the court. The reason I coach volleyball is because of the opportunity to get to work with athletes like Sydney Matheny. Sydney is an exceptional student, athlete, and person. During the time that I worked with her, Sydney fully dedicated herself to improving as a volleyball player. She is coachable, is a good teammate, and was an integral part of the success of our team the past three seasons. She leads by example and never requires more of others than she requires of herself. Sydney has a dominating presence on the court. Sydney spends as much time helping in the community as she does on the court. Sydney went on a missions trip to Fond Blonc, Haiti this last year to help build schools. Sydney is very deserving of the honor of Gatorade Player of the Year. Her character, work ethic, leadership, and skill distinguish her from the competition. I was truly blessed with the opportunity to have Sydney in my life as both an athlete and person.”
