The 6-foot, 150-pound senior middle distance and distance talent finished 11th in the 1500-meter run against a professional field at the Portland Track Festival, clocking a 3:36.49 , which ranked No. 1 nationally among prep boys competitors this spring and No. 2 in prep history. Powell also finished second in the 800 at the Brooks PR Invitational with a state-record time of 1:46.63, which ranked No. 2 nationally. He also set a state record in the 3200-meter run at the KingCo Class 3A Championships, breaking the tape in 8:38.98.
Powell has maintained a 3.70 GPA in the classroom. He has signed a written letter of athletic aid to compete at the University of Washington this fall.
A member of his school’s Interact Club, Powell has volunteered locally as a youth track mentor and motivational speaker.
