The 5-foot-8, 150-pound senior won the 2,000-meter steeplechase event at New Balance Nationals Outdoor this past season with a state-record time of 5:43.50. Kemper also PR’d in the 800, taking fourth place at the national Brooks PR Invitational in 1:49.62, which ranked No. 10 nationally among prep boys competitors this spring. He won the 800, took second in the 1600 and shared in a 4x800 relay win at the Class 5A state meet, leading the Brave to second place as a team.
Kemper has maintained a 4.41 weighted GPA in the classroom. He will attend Dartmouth College this fall, where he will run for The Green.
Also a club and high school soccer player, Kemper is a practiced piano player who has volunteered locally on behalf of the Bogus Basin Nordic Team with which he builds and repairs trails and coaches younger racers. A member of his school’s Green Team environmental awareness club, he has also competed with the varsity speech and debate team. He has worked in the area’s restaurant industry as well.
