The 6-foot-5, 180-pound junior right-handed pitcher and first baseman had led the Crusaders to a 22-5-1 record and a berth in the Class 6A state tournament at the time of his selection. Through 28 games, Abel owned a 9-0 record on the mound with a 1.34 earned run average and 90 strikeouts in 57.1 innings pitched. He had surrendered just 33 hits and issued 19 walks. At the plate, Abel owned a .294 batting average with 12 runs scored, 14 RBI and a .490 slugging percentage. He is ranked as the nation’s No. 8 prospect in the Class of 2020 by Perfect Game.
Abel has maintained a 3.34 GPA in the classroom. He has made a verbal commitment to play baseball on scholarship at Oregon State University beginning in the fall of 2020.
Abel has volunteered locally by packing clothes for children in foster care on behalf of Northwest Children’s Outreach and has also donated his time at a camp for adults with disabilities and at a nursing home.
