The 6-foot-1 170-pound senior distance talent swept the 800- and 1600-meter events at the state meet this past season, producing top national times in both events. Barco’s personal-best winning 1600 time of 4:06.34 seconds ranked No. 21 nationally among prep competitors this spring and No. 5 in state history. His 800 clocking of 1:50.97 was a PR and was tied for No. 44 nationally. Barco finished the season ranked in the national Top 50 in five distance events. He also took third in the 1500 at the USATF U20 Championships with a personal-best 3:47.73.
Barco has maintained a 3.29 weighted GPA in the classroom. He has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete on scholarship at the University of Washington this fall.
A member of his school’s Student Athlete Leadership Team, Red and Blue Crew and French Club, Barco has volunteered locally on behalf of Unified Sports competitions serving physically and intellectually challenged youth athletes in Morgan County. He also serves as part of the Emmanuel Church Campus Youth Group, and has donated his time as a referee at youth soccer camps and clinics.
