The 5-foot-8 senior right-handed pitcher led the Golden Knights to a berth in the Delaware state championship game this past season. Layfield compiled an 18-4 record in the circle with a 1.08 ERA, surrendering just 66 hits while striking out 275 batters over 148.2 innings pitched to post a 0.821 WHIP. She also hit two home runs and recorded 17 RBI. The Delaware Coaches Association Player of the Year, she concluded her prep career with 1,045 strikeouts, nine no-hitters and a 73-13 record having reached the state title game three times.
Layfield has maintained a 3.9 weighted GPA in the classroom. She has signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball on scholarship at the University of Central Arkansas this fall.
Layfield has volunteered locally with the Special Olympics and by raising awareness toward ALS research via Strikeout ALS. She has also been a participant in Educators Rising, which offers opportunities to work with faculty on improving student leadership.
