At the time of his selection, the 6-foot-8, 230-pound senior left-handed pitcher and first baseman had led the Lancers (18-9) to the second round of the Class 6A postseason tournament. Schoolcraft owned a 5-0 record on the mound along with a 0.525 ERA and 82 strikeouts in 40 innings through 27 games. He averaged two strikeouts per inning and compiled a WHIP of 0.700. At the plate, he hit .521 entering the state round of 16 with 10 home runs, 30 RBI and 26 runs scored. He posted a .657 OBP and an OPS of 1.657. Ranked as the nation’s No. 4 prospect in his class by Baseball America, he is also the state’s returning Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year.
Schoolcraft has maintained a 3.9 GPA in the classroom. He has signed a written letter of athletic aid to play baseball at the University of Tennessee this fall, but is projected as a first round selection in July’s Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft.
Schoolcraft has volunteered locally on behalf of HOPE (Honoring Our Precious Elderly) and Legacy Emanuel Children’s Hospital in addition to donating his time to Sunset High Youth Baseball camps as well as to a variety of community service projects undertaken by the team.
