At the time of his selection, the 5-foot-11, 190-pound senior shortstop had led the Friars to a 14-7 record and a berth in the Class 5A state tournament. McGonigle batted .474 with four home runs, 16 RBI and 29 runs scored through 21 games. Ranked as the nation’s No. 7 prospect in the Class of 2023 by Perfect Game, he walked 28 times while striking out just once in 76 plate appearances. The 2022 Delaware County Player of the Year, he also swiped 12 bases, posting an on-base percentage of .647 and an .894 slugging percentage.
McGonigle has maintained a 92.5 average in the classroom. He has signed a National Letter of Intent to play baseball on scholarship at Auburn University this fall, but is projected as an early round selection in July’s Major League Baseball draft.
McGonigle has volunteered locally on behalf of a youth baseball clinic in association with Drexel Hill Little League and has donated his time with the YMCA of Upper Darby by distributing food to the underprivileged.
