“He is the ultimate teammate and true definition of a student - athlete."When Karl Anthony Towns chose to attend St. Joseph HS in Metuchen NJ, that choice has changed everyone's life at the school for the better. He is the ultimate teammate and true definition of a student - athlete. The thing I really admired most about Karl is that he is a leader and leads by example. This is not an easy thing to do when you are never really playing with kids in your same grade, each year Karl had a new group of teammates. Also despite all the accolades that Karl received on the basketball court it never affected his mindset or made him think that he was better than everyone else. He continued to put in countless hours on the basketball court and into his studies to make sure that he would be the best possible person he could be. Somehow he would then find time to go out and help the less fortunate, the way he interacted with children is truly amazing. I always admired that no matter what type of game he had he always made himself available after the game on the road to take time to sign autographs, pose for pictures and talk to opposing team fans that weren't always so nice to him as the game was going on. He is so mature for such a young man that he was able to graduate High School in 3 years and maintain a 4.3 GPA. I am certainly going to miss all he has done on the court the 1670 points, the 1200 rebounds the 600 blocks but the thing St. Joseph Basketball will miss the most is the character and leadership he displayed from his first day to his last day. I have always told people I was never worried about winning or losing a game - since I had a Karl Anthony Towns and no opponent we played did. I am a believer that good things happen to good people - it's safe to say great things have happened at St. Joseph HS because of Karl Anthony Towns”
