The 5-foot-7, 125-pound sophomore submitted a remarkable postseason following his win in the Class 5 state meet, which sparked the Hawkletts to the team title this past season. McGovern finished fourth at the NXN Midwest Regional, coasting to nationals’ qualification on the strength of that First Team All-Region showing. At Nike Cross Nationals, he took 10th to earn Second Team All-American status. McGovern also broke the tape in the Elite Varsity Race at the Gans Creek Classic, clocking a personal-best time of 14:44.7. He concluded the year ranked at No. 10 in both the national MileSplit50 and Dyestat 100 rankings.
McGovern has maintained a weighted 4.07 GPA in the classroom. He will begin his junior year of high school this fall.
A member of his school’s Spanish and photography clubs as well as its chamber choir, McGovern has volunteered locally on behalf of the Young Men’s Service League. Also a lector and altar server at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, he operates his own lawn care and a trash and recycling business.
