“Dustin was phenomenal this year. He likes to push the pace right from the start and leave no doubt. Most of the time there is no one around him and then he races the clock and himself.”

Athletic Excellence

The state’s returning Gatorade Runner of the Year, the 6-foot, 145-pound senior won the Division I state meet for a second straight year this past season with a time of 15:03.5, breaking the tape 0.4 seconds ahead of his next-closest competitor. Horter won the Nike Cross Nationals Midwest Regional championships in a school-record time of 14:57.6 for 5K and then earned First Team All-American status by finishing sixth at the NXN Final. He is a four-time First Team All-State selection and the three-time Cincinnati Enquirer Cross Country Runner of the Year.

Academic Achievement

Horter has maintained a weighted 4.15 GPA in the classroom. He has signed a National Letter of Intent to run cross country on scholarship at Indiana University this fall.

Exemplary Character

A member of the Student Athletic Leadership Team at Lakota East, Horter has participated in multiple service-mission trips with his church. He has volunteered locally at a food pantry and donated his time as a teacher’s aide at Vacation Bible School.
