At the time of his selection, the 6-foot-2, 190-pound senior guard had led the Eagles to a 23-4 record and a berth in the Class 6A title game. Scherer averaged 26.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 5 assists, 2.6 steals and shot 47 percent from beyond the arc through 26 games. The returning Colorado Gatorade Player of the Year, he was also named the Colorado High School Athletic Association 6A Player of the Year in 2023-24. He scored 39 in the state semifinals and entered the championship game with 2,004 career points.
Scherer has maintained a 3.91 GPA in the classroom. He has signed a written letter of athletic aid to play basketball at Eastern Washington University this fall.
A member of the National Honor Society, Scherer has volunteered locally with the Boys and Girls of Metro Denver. He has also completed service missions in Israel, Uganda and Mexico.
