The state’s 2018-19 Gatorade Girls Track & Field Player of the Year, the 5-foot-5 junior won the 800- and 1,500-meter events at the Class 4A state meet and took second in the 3,000, leading the Lightning to a seventh-place finish as a team. At the time of her selection, Keeney’s season-best clocking of 9:58.57 in the 3,000 ranked No. 23 nationally among prep competitors in the event in 2021. Keeney has volunteered locally at the Iowa City Community Crisis Center, and she has donated her time as a freshman tutor and youth track coach.
