The 5-foot-9 junior raced to victory at the NY Federation Championships this past season, breaking the tape in 17:59.4 to win by nearly 25 seconds. Macchia followed up by winning the Foot Locker Northeast Regional championship, setting the stage for a 10th-place finish at Foot Locker nationals to earn Second Team All-American honors as the state’s top runner at the event. She took second at the Class A state championships, a loss she avenged at Foot Locker. She also clocked a personal-best 17:01 to win the Girls Race of Champions at the Nike XC Town Twilight Invitational.
Macchia has maintained a 4.3 GPA in the classroom. She will begin her senior year of high school this fall.
Macchia helped establish an ecological and environmental center for her community and has volunteered locally as part of multiple Science Bowl events geared toward low-income and students of color.
