The 6-foot-3, 210-pound senior shortstop and right-handed pitcher had led the Vikings to a 15-3 record and a berth in the state tournament at the time of his selection. Gelof produced a .448 batting average with six home runs, 16 RBI, 29 runs and 24 stolen bases in as many attempts through 18 games. Drawing 12 walks, he compiled a .562 on-base percentage along with an .879 slugging percentage. On the mound, the 2017 Henlopen Conference Player of the Year posted a 4-0 record with a 0.59 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 23.2 innings pitched entering the postseason.
Gelof has maintained a weighted 4.02 GPA in the classroom. He has signed a national letter of intent to play baseball on scholarship at the University of Virginia this fall.
The Cape Henlopen High class president for each of the last four years, Gelof has donated his time as a summer youth baseball camp counselor. As a National Honor Society and Cape Henlopen Leo Club member, he has volunteered locally on behalf of multiple community service endeavors.
