“He was consistently the first player to practice and one of the last to leaveI feel that Tyler Rider received Gatorade Player of the year because of his character. He was consistently the first player to practice and one of the last to leave; he held his teammates accountable if their level of play or attitude dropped below our standards. He was willing to sacrifice personal stats and glory and moved to a defensive position in order to organize our team in the back to help us achieve our team goals and finish with a record of 27-2. Tyler also demonstrated great team leadership and unselfishness by being voted our best defensive player of the year and passing the award to another teammate he felt was under appreciated for the defensive efforts he put out during the season. Besides the soccer field, Tyler held a 4.68 GPA on a weighted scale and volunteers his time leading Bible Study classes and helps fellow students as a tutor. Tyler comes from a large family (4 Boys and 1 Girl) with tremendous moral values and Parents that hold their children to those values. To me, that is what makes Tyler the South Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year.”
