The state's returning Gatorade Track & Field Athlete of the Year, the 6-foot-1, 155-pound senior swept the 800-meter run, the 1,500 and the 3,000 for a second straight year at the Division I state meet this past season, leading the Redhawks to a fourth-place finish as a team. Marshall set state records in the 1,500, 1,600 and 3,000 this spring with his 1,500 (3:56.18) and 3,000 clocking (8:36.89) each ranking in the national top 20 among prep competitors in 2017 at the time of his selection.
Marshall has maintained a 3.40 GPA in the classroom. He has signed a national letter of intent to compete on an athletic scholarship at the University of Vermont beginning this fall.
Marshall has volunteered on behalf of multiple road races and as a youth track coach. "Tyler had an exceptional track and field season," said Tim Noonan, head coach of Montpelier High. "I have watched him make consistent and substantial improvement during his four years at CVU, a tribute to his commitment, ability and durability."
