The 6-foot-2, 205-pound sophomore won the shot put and the discus at the Class 2A state meet this past season, leading the Spudders to a second-place finish as a team. Knight ranked No. 1 in the nation among prep competitors in 2018 at the time of his selection thanks to his personal-best hammer throw of 233 feet, 10.5 inches at the Amity Throws Meet in June. His best effort in the shot put (63-5) ranked No. 17 and his top discus distance of 187-6 ranked No. 34 in the nation.
Knight has maintained a 3.77 GPA in the classroom and represents one of the state’s top academic candidates in meeting the Gatorade award’s broad criteria. He will begin his junior year of high school this fall.
Knight has volunteered locally at Daybreak Youth Services, serving Christmas breakfast to residents. He has also donated his time as a youth track coach.
