The state's returning Gatorade Runner of the Year, the 5-foot-4 senior won her second straight Class A state meet title this past season with a time of 18:54.5, breaking the tape 8.3 seconds ahead of her next-closest competitor and leading the Patriots to a fifth-place finish as a team. A four-time First Team All-State selection, Somers finished 18th at the Nike Cross Nationals Heartland Regional championships and was 43rd at the Foot Locker Midwest Regional championships.
Somers has maintained a weighted 4.08 GPA in the classroom. She remains undecided upon a collegiate destination.
A member of the PIT Crew, a leadership committee for Millard South athletes, Somers has volunteered locally as part of community-beautification projects and as an elementary-school aide. "Taylor is a talented runner," said Emily Janda, head coach of Millard North High. "From what I've seen, she puts in the time in the summer and does track and field in the spring to condition her for the cross country season."
