The state’s returning Gatorade Runner of the Year, the 5-foot-3 sophomore won the Nike Cross Nationals Northwest Regional championships with a time of 17:24.1, breaking the tape 13.9 seconds ahead of her next-closest competitor. Thorvaldson also earned All-American honors for a second straight year with her 13th-place finish at NXN Final. She also won the Class 3A state meet with a state- and course-record time of 17:34.68, leading the Outlaws to a seventh-place finish as a team.
Thorvaldson has maintained a 4.0 GPA in the classroom. She will begin her junior year of high school this fall.
A member of the Rawlins High student council, Thorvaldson has volunteered locally as part of community beautification projects, and has donated her time as a teacher’s aide at her church.
