The 5-foot-3 senior became the first Floridian prep female to sweep the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes at a single state meet this past season, while also contributing to a 4x400-meter relay victory. The 2015 USATF Florida Youth Athlete of the Year, Mason broke the tape in the 100 with a time of 11.70 seconds, then took gold in the 200 (23.48) and the 400 (52.69) before anchoring a relay quartet that clocked a 3:43.03, which ranked as the nation's No. 10 time in the event this season at the time of her selection. The teen's career-best times this season in the 100 (11.24), 200 (23.00) and 400 (52.42) rank as the nation's No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 performances, respectively, in 2017. She also tied a meet record en route to a national title at this month's New Balance Nationals Outdoor, winning the 100 dash with a time of 11.27 seconds.
Mason has maintained a 3.16 GPA in the classroom and has signed a national letter of intent to compete on an athletic scholarship at the University of Miami beginning this fall.
Mason has participated in an expansive list of community service activities, including a focus on volunteering in a variety of capacities for Jack and Jill of America, an organization dedicated to nurturing future African American leaders. She has also donated her time as an administrative assistant in her school's front office in addition to participating in Southridge's Health Information Project as well as tutoring peers, staffing the school concession stand and serving as an official at youth track meets. "Mason achieved a performance level in the sprints that perhaps no female athlete has ever produced at the high school level," said Erik Boal, editor for Dyestat.com. "Her exceptional range resulted in a memorable sweep of the sprint titles at the state meet, helping Southridge secure a team championship. She followed up with impressive efforts against national fields in different events at the Prefontaine Classic and adidas Boost Boston Games."
