The 6-foot-1, 180-pound senior center back led the Spartans to a 20-0-2 record and the Division 1 state title game this past season. In the WIAA final, Brookfield East fell on penalties (4-2) after playing to a 1-1 tie. Berghauer led a defense that allowed only three goals in his 21 matches and recorded 14 shutouts. He added 13 goals and 3 assists this spring. A two-time First Team All-State selection and a United Soccer Coaches All-American, he was the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association Player of the Year—the first defender to receive the honor since 2016—and was named a High School All-America Boys Soccer Game “Top Performer” by PrepSoccer.
Berghauer has maintained a 4.3 GPA in the classroom. He has signed a national letter of intent to play soccer on scholarship at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee this fall.
Berghauer has volunteered extensively in association with his United Methodist Church youth group. He has also donated his time to community beautification efforts at Elm Grove Park.
