The 6-foot-2, 195-pound junior left-handed pitcher and outfielder had led the Eagles to a 24-11 record and a berth in the Division 1, Class AAA state tournament at the time of his selection. Hassell owned a 5-2 record with a 1.07 earned run average and 113 strikeouts in 59 innings pitched through 35 games. He had allowed just 25 hits and walked 21. At the plate, a two-time District 11-AAA Player of the Year carried a .410 batting average with 12 home runs, 31 runs scored and 33 RBI into the postseason. With 43 walks, he had a .583 on-base percentage and a .890 slugging percentage.
Hassell has maintained a 3.52 GPA in the classroom. He has made a verbal commitment to play baseball on scholarship at Vanderbilt University beginning in the fall of 2020.
Hassell has volunteered locally as a youth baseball coach.
