She joins an impressive group of Kansas Gatorade honorees that includes Cailie Logue, Emily Venters and Alli Cash, all of whom have had a big impact on their teams at the NCAA Division 1 level.”

Athletic Excellence

The 5-foot-6 junior won the Cross Country Coaches National Youth Championships in the girls’ 15-18 division this past season, breaking the tape in 17:50.49. Racing to 12th at the Nike Cross Nationals Heartland Regional championships in 17:44.61, Sovereign also won the KSHSAA 5A State Championships with a time of 18:36.50, leading the Saints to third place as a team.

Academic Achievement

Sovereign has maintained an A average in the classroom. She will begin her senior year of high school this fall.

Exemplary Character

A winner of the President’s Volunteer Service Award at her school for completing more than 100 hours of community service in a calendar year, Sovereign has donated her time to the local Catholic Charities thrift store as well as Ronald McDonald House charities. A member of her school’s French club, she has also worked as a lifeguard at the Lenexa Rec Center in addition to serving as a youth soccer referee and track coach.
