The 6-foot-2, 190-pound senior centerfields had led the Rebels (22-5) to a berth in the Class 4A sectional semifinals at the time of his selection. Schnell batted .522 (35-for-67) with 10 home runs, 24 RBI and 37 runs scored through 27 games. Schnell also walked 28 times and cranked three triples to elevate his on-base percentage to .657 entering the postseason, in addition to swiping 16 bases in as many attempts. A participant in the 2017 Perfect Game All-American Classic, Schnell is ranked No. 16 in Baseball America’s Top High School Prospects list.
Schnell has maintained a 3.35 GPA in the classroom. He has signed a national letter of intent to play baseball on scholarship at the University of Louisville this fall, but is projected as an early-round selection in June’s Major League Baseball draft.
Schnell has volunteered locally with the Catholic Youth Organization through the St. Roch Catholic Church, helping provide meals for the homeless at Thanksgiving and working with the Giving Tree program, which provides gifts to the less fortunate during the holiday season. He also has donated his time as a mentor at CYO sporting events.
