The 6-foot-2, 180-pound junior jumps specialist won the high jump and triple jump at the Class AAA state meet this past season, soaring 51 feet, 7.5 inches in the latter to set a state record with an effort that ranked No. 2 nationally among boys prep competitors this spring. Nesmith cleared 6-10 in the high jump at the state meet, bettering his previous high by 4 inches, and two weeks later, eclipsed that mark at the Tennessee Association Championships when he leapt 7-2.5, which ranked No. 5 nationally at the time of his selection and put him at No. 2 on the state’s all-time list. He won the national title in the long jump (24-3.5) at Nike Outdoor Nationals and earned the silver medal in the triple jump.
Nesmith has maintained a B average in the classroom. He will begin his senior year of high school this fall.
Nesmith has volunteered locally as a youth track coach.
