The 5-foot-6 junior midfielder scored 15 goals and passed for 12 assists this past season, leading the Crimson (13-3-3) to the Section 5AA tournament championship game, losing in overtime to eventual state champion Centennial High. A three-time Class AA First Team All-State selection, Haakenson is a member of the U.S. Youth Soccer Region II Olympic Development Program team, and she is rated as the nation's No. 23 recruit in the Class of 2018 by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
Haakenson has maintained a 3.80 GPA in the classroom. She has made a verbal commitment to play soccer on scholarship at the University of Michigan beginning in the fall of 2018.
Haakenson started a non-profit to raise money to battle childhood cancer. She has volunteered locally with Feed My Starving Children and as a youth soccer coach and referee. "Once the ball is at Meredith's feet and she is able to take a few steps, she truly becomes one with the ball, moving seamlessly together," said Calen Nimmer, head coach of Champlin Park High. "What sets Meredith apart from others is her deceptive, technical creativity on the ball."
