The 6-foot-3 sophomore setter and right-side hitter led the Trojans to a 34-6 record and the Class 3A state championship this past season. Shaffmaster amassed 456 kills, 952 assists, 219 digs, 101 blocks and 74 service aces. The MaxPreps National Sophomore Volleyball Player of the Year, Shaffmaster has already recorded 1,863 assists, 758 kills and 469 digs in her prep volleyball career.
Shaffmaster has maintained a weighted 3.95 GPA in the classroom. She has verbally committed to play volleyball on scholarship at the University of Minnesota beginning in the fall of 2020.
A member of her school’s student council, Spanish club and Renaissance Leadership committee, Shaffmaster also organized a health and beauty supply drive for New Castle’s Christian Love Help Center. “Melani Shaffmaster absolutely destroyed us,” said Jason Young, head coach at Hamilton Southeastern High. “She served us off the court. They don’t win a state championship without her.”
