The 6-foot-3, 250-pound junior throws specialist set a state record in the discus toss at the Bob Friday Warrior Invitational this past season, launching the implement 197 feet, 2 inches to break a mark that had stood since 1982. The effort ranked No. 20 nationally among boys prep competitors this spring. Martire also won the discus and placed third in the shot put at the Division 2 state meet, leading the Hornets to second place as a team. He won the discus event at the DIAA Meet of Champions as well and earned All-American status with a second-place finish in the discus at New Balance Nationals Outdoor.
Martire has maintained an A average in the classroom. He will begin his senior year of high school this fall.
A three-year class representative in Tatnall’s student government, Martire is the founder and president of his school’s chess club. He has volunteered locally at the Central YMCA in Wilmington and as a youth camp counselor.
