The 6-foot-2, 185-pound senior point guard has led the Warriors to a 34-4 record and a berth in the Dick's Sporting Goods High School National Tournament, scheduled to begin March 30. Coleman averaged 11.3 points, 7.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game through 38 games. He was a member of the USA Basketball Under-18 National Team that won a gold medal at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship in July.
Coleman has maintained an A average in the classroom. He has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball on scholarship at the University of Texas beginning this fall.
Coleman has volunteered locally on the Oak Hill Academy student committee for social reform. He has also donated his time in his hometown of Norfolk as part of an anti-violence campaign and as a youth basketball coach. "Matt is a bright spot for any coach," said Mark Hall, head coach of Cape Henry Collegiate School. "He has a great basketball IQ, court vision, quickness and the ability to get others involved and make them better. He is very vital to that team."
