The 5-foot-9 senior won her fourth consecutive state championship in the javelin this past season with a throw of 160 feet, nine inches. The national record holder in the event (185-8 in 2015), Wiltrout was the state's Gatorade Track and Field Athlete of the Year as a sophomore. Her season-best effort of 173-10 this spring ranked as the nation's No. 1 performance among prep competitors in 2017 at the time of her selection-nine feet further than the next-closest challenger. She also won the javelin event at this month's New Balance Nationals Outdoor.
Wiltrout has maintained a 3.76 GPA in the classroom. She has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete on an athletic scholarship at the University of North Carolina this fall.
A devoted member of her church youth group, Wiltrout has volunteered locally on behalf of Samaritan's Purse relief organization, community clean-up initiatives and Operation Christmas Child. "I've had the good fortune to see Madison grow not only as an athlete, but as a human being," said Connellsville coach Jeff Galand. "She's the ultimate competitor, but she gets as much joy from helping others be successful as from her own success."
