The 5-foot-4 senior sprinter captured three individual state titles this spring, leading the Mustangs to a fourth-place finish at the Class C state meet. The 2017 Lincoln Journal Star Girls Athlete of the Year, Brandl won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.34 seconds and earned all-class gold in both the 200-meter dash in 25.34 and the 400-meter run, breaking the tape in 56.85.
Brandl has maintained a 3.79 GPA in the classroom. She has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete on an athletic scholarship at Doane University this fall.
A member of her school's concert choir and the Future Farmers of America, for which she has served as treasurer, Brandl has volunteered locally on behalf of the National Honor Society. "MacKenzie Brandl's greatest strength is her ability to attack whatever task is asked of her with unmatched focus and borderline reckless abandon," said Stanton High head coach David Ernesti. "Everything she does is done with 100 percent effort and she will try to do it at 100 miles per hour."
