The 5-foot-10, 165-pound senior won three individual state championships at the Class 2A state meet this past season. Smith captured the 110-meter high hurdles in 14.70 seconds, the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 39.04 and broke the tape in the long jump with a leap of 23 feet, 5.5 inches. He also took fourth in the long jump at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor with an effort of 24-0.25, which ranked as the nation's No. 16 performance among prep competitors in 2017 at the time of his selection.
Smith has maintained a B average in the classroom. He remains undecided upon a collegiate destination.
Also a football standout, Smith has volunteered locally on behalf of a youth track program. "As a senior, Kollin set the bar extremely high for himself, and I'm pleased to say that he reached his goals," said Frederick Douglass coach DeArdrey Jenkins. "He's one of the first athletes on the track every day and the last to leave. He worked on his craft, day in and day out."
