The 6-foot, 190-pound senior infielder and right-handed pitcher had led the Wolverines to a 13-1 record and a berth in the state tournament at the time of his selection. Homza batted .560 with 28 runs scored, 19 stolen bases and 14 RBI through 14 games. The state's returning Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year, he also posted a 3-0 record on the mound with a 1.15 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 15 innings.
Homza has maintained a 3.59 GPA in the classroom. He has signed a National Letter of Intent to play baseball on scholarship at the University of Hawaii this fall.
Homza has volunteered locally on behalf of Standing Together Against Rape, and as a youth baseball coach. "Jonny Homza is probably the best all-around player and most competitive player that I have ever coached," said South Anchorage head coach Taylor Nerland. "As a coach, I could tell him to play any position and he would automatically be one of the best guys on the team at that position within a couple reps."
