The state’s returning Gatorade Player of the Year, the 6-foot-3, 230-pound senior won national championships in the hammer and discus throws at the Nike Outdoor Nationals this past season. Less than a week later, Nubbe took bronze in the hammer and fourth in the discus at the USATF Under-20 National Championships. Nubbe’s personal-best hammer throw of 245 feet, 5 inches at the Evergreen Hammer Meet ranked No. 2 nationally among prep competitors in 2022 at the time of his selection as well as No. 8 in high school history. His personal-best discus effort of 207-4 ranked No. 3 in the country this spring. He also won the discus and hammer and took second in the javelin at the Class 2B state meet, leading the Mountaineers to the team title.
One of three valedictorians at Rainier High, Nubbe has maintained a 4.0 GPA in the classroom. He has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete on an athletic scholarship at the University of Texas this fall.
The president of the SkillsUSA Club at Rainier High, Nubbe is an experienced welder who has helped install signs in several community parks around Rainier. He has also volunteered locally with the Rainier Education Foundation Scholarship program.
