“Despite being only a junior, Jane Hedengren has already stamped herself as the most prolific multi-lapper in Utah history and now owns all seven state distance records from 1500 meters to 5000 meters. She even added a state record as part of the school’s 4x400 relay foursome. Her greatest successes came when crossing state lines as she earned silver medal finishes in the 2-mile at the Brooks PR Invitational and in the mile at the Arcadia Invitational in Los Angeles. Next year might be her turn.”

Athletic Excellence

The returning Gatorade State Track & Field Player of the Year, 5-foot-11 junior distance talent broke a trio of state records, clocking times that rank among the Top 15 in prep history, guiding the Thunderbirds to the Class 5A state team title this past season. At the state meet, Hedengren broke the tape in 9:52.96 at altitude to eclipse the 3200-meter state record—only five U.S. prep girls have ever run faster. At the Brooks PR Invitational, she crossed the line in 9:48.77 to smash the Utah girls 2-mile record, posting the second-fastest time in prep history in the process. At midseason, she crossed state lines to break the state record in the mile, racing to a 4:37.17 at the Arcadia Invitational in California. Also the Gatorade Girls Cross Country POY this year, she now ranks No. 13 in prep girls history in the event.
