The returning Gatorade State Track & Field Player of the Year, 5-foot-11 junior distance talent broke a trio of state records, clocking times that rank among the Top 15 in prep history, guiding the Thunderbirds to the Class 5A state team title this past season. At the state meet, Hedengren broke the tape in 9:52.96 at altitude to eclipse the 3200-meter state record—only five U.S. prep girls have ever run faster. At the Brooks PR Invitational, she crossed the line in 9:48.77 to smash the Utah girls 2-mile record, posting the second-fastest time in prep history in the process. At midseason, she crossed state lines to break the state record in the mile, racing to a 4:37.17 at the Arcadia Invitational in California. Also the Gatorade Girls Cross Country POY this year, she now ranks No. 13 in prep girls history in the event.
Hedengren has maintained a 3.74 GPA in the classroom. She will begin her senior year of high school this fall.
Hedengren has volunteered locally mentoring younger runners involved in the Roadrunner Junior Club. She has also donated her time with the Latter Day Saints.
