The 6-foot-3, 185-pound senior captured a pair of individual titles at the Class 7A state meet this spring, leading the Mountaineers to a fourth-place finish as a team. Benninghoff won the high jump with a clearance of six feet, four inches, as well as the long jump, soaring a season-best 22-4.75. He was undefeated in both events in 2017 and his personal-best clearance of 6-10 in the high jump at the Class 7A West regionals ranked as the nation's No. 40 performance among prep competitors in 2017 at the time of his selection.
Benninghoff has maintained a 3.88 GPA in the classroom. He has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete on an athletic scholarship at Texas Tech University this fall.
Benninghoff has volunteered locally on behalf of youth track and field programs. "Jake Benninghoff is incredibly gifted in the sport of track & field," said Rogers High head coach Carlton Efurd. "As good as he is, he was always trying to find new ways to improve. Then he would take that knowledge and try to pass it on to his teammates to make them better too."
