The 6-foot-4, 175-pound senior shortstop led the Jaguars (23-2) to the Class 6A state championship this spring. Lovich batted .430 with seven home runs, 34 RBI and 31 runs scored. Also the Kansas 6A Player of the Year, he went 4-for-4 with six RBI in Blue Valley West’s 12-5 win over Washburn Rural in the tournament semifinals. He made a rare pitching appearance in the championship game, worked out of a bases-loaded, no-outs jam and picked up the win on the mound as the Jaguars beat Manhattan, 4-3.
Lovich has maintained a 3.66 weighted GPA in the classroom. He has signed a National Letter of Intent to play baseball on scholarship at the University of Missouri.
An Academic Honor Roll student, Lovich has volunteered locally both as a peer tutor and as an aid for students with special needs. He also has donated his time as an instructor at Blue Valley West youth baseball and basketball camps.
