The 6-foot-0, 190-pound senior wideout caught 72 passes for 1,171 yards and 21 touchdowns, leading the Patriots (12-0) to the Class AAA state championship. Smith added another 576 all-purpose yards and 3 scores as a returning specialist and running back. The two-time All-State selection will graduate as the state’s career leader in receptions and career receiving yards. He is also the Class AAA record-holder for single-game receiving yards, receptions and touchdown receptions.
Smith has maintained a weighted GPA of 4.09 in the classroom. He has signed a National Letter of Intent to play football on scholarship at South Dakota State University this fall.
A member of his school’s Latin Club while studying the language, Smith has volunteered locally on behalf of Best Buddies, the Miracle League and the Sioux Falls Marathon. He has also donated his time to the American Legion’s Rookies youth baseball program, the Veterans Pancake Feed, the Veterans Tree Planting and The Banquet, feeding the unhoused.
