The 5-foot-11, 130-pound junior broke the tape at the Class 4A state meet this past season in a time of 15:48.3, earning his second individual title and powering the Braves to the team gold. Wetzel, unbeaten on Wyoming soil during the season, won five meets. He took ninth at the highly competitive Bob Firman Invitational as the top Wyoming competitor in a personal-best time of 15:29.7 and earned Third Team All-Region honors by finishing 16th at the NXR Northwest Regionals
Wetzel has maintained a 3.88 GPA in the classroom. He will begin his senior year of high school this fall.
Wetzel has volunteered as part of multiple community beautification projects and local food drives. He has also donated his time with a wintertime clothing drive and with the Afton Food Pantry.
