Gavin McElhennon Gatorade 2017 - 2018: Player of the Year Boys Cross Country

“As a freshman, Gavin was consistently the number eight runner on a deep team, but this year he emerged as our top runner, leading the way in every race. He works hard in practice and sets the tone for the rest of the team, and he has a great innate racing sense. I’m excited to see what he can do the next two years.”

Athletic Excellence

The 5-foot-10, 130-pound sophomore raced to the D.C. State Athletic Association individual championship this past season with a time of 16:34. McElhennon also won the Pacers Running DCXC Invitational, while placing second at the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championships, fourth at the Glory Days Invitational and seventh at the Jesuit championships.

Academic Achievement

McElhennon has maintained a 4.33 GPA in the classroom. He will begin his junior year of high school this fall.

Exemplary Character

A devoted member of his church’s youth group, McElhennon has participated in summer service-mission trips and has volunteered locally on behalf of the Father McKenna Center for the homeless and low-income families.
