The 5-foot-11 senior won the high jump, long jump and the triple jump at the Division I state meet this past season, leading the Mustangs to a second-place finish as a team. Nelson’s high jump clearance of 5 feet, 9 inches broke the state record and ranked No. 34 among prep competitors in 2018 at the time of her selection. She also clinched her third straight long jump state title (17-5). Nelson entered the state meet already owning school records in the long jump (17-6.75) and the triple jump (37-9). A four-year team MVP, Nelson was named the state’s Div. 1 Female Athlete of the Meet after winning her fourth, fifth and sixth jumping titles.
Nelson has maintained a B average in the classroom. She has signed a national letter of intent to compete on an athletic scholarship at Oregon State University this fall.
A ballet dancer and cellist, Nelson is also a competitive Nordic skier. She has volunteered locally at various races and has donated her time to the Special Olympics.
