The 5-foot-10 junior defender had led the Huskies to a 19-0-3 record and a berth in the Division 2 state semifinals at the time of her selection. Ashby had scored five goals and passed for 12 assists through 22 games. Ashby also led a defense that had allowed just eight goals and recorded 15 shutouts. She was a First Team All-State selection as a sophomore and is rated as the nation's No. 88 recruit in the Class of 2018 by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
Ashby has maintained a 4.03 weighted GPA in the classroom. She has made a verbal commitment to play soccer on scholarship at the University of Michigan beginning in the fall of 2018.
Ashby has volunteered locally with the Special Olympics and she has donated her time as part of multiple community-service initiatives through her church. "As a center back, Emily probably has one of the highest soccer IQs I've ever seen," said Justin Harnden, head coach of Cedar Springs High. "She's usually 2-3 passes ahead because that's the level she plays at. She commands everything in the back."
