“She fears no one, but respects everyone.Ella Donaghu exemplifies the ideal Gatorade Player of the Year. She is an authentic person who challenges herself to be the best she can be on and off the field. In race after race including winning the Oregon State Championship, she would always extend encouragement to all her competitors. Even after a grueling race, she would turn around and congratulate other runners right after they crossed the finish line. This can be done in a phony way, but Ella's kindness is genuine. Her 4.0 grade point average doesn't reflect merely jumping through the academic hoops presented by her teachers; Ella is truly intellectually engaged in the world of ideas. Her involvement in clubs and service agencies is a reflection of her interest in helping others, making sure that they get recognized as full-fledged individuals. For Ella, winning is important, but it has to be winning the right way. She makes sure that everyone around her is treated respectfully. She fears no one, but respects everyone.”
