The 5-foot-8 senior guard had led the Comets to a 23-2 record and a berth in the Division I state Round of 16 at the time of her selection. Bekelja averaged 19.8 points, 6.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game while shooting 58.3 percent form inside the arc through 25 games. A First Team All-State selection, she had scored more than 1,700 points in her prep career entering the postseason quarterfinals.
Bekelja has maintained a 3.56 GPA in the classroom. She has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball on scholarship at DePaul University this fall.
A member of the National Honor Society and Students Against Destructive Decisions, she has volunteered locally on behalf of the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, Laura's Home Women's Crisis Center and as a youth basketball coach. "I think when people watch Dee Bekelja they admire her will to win," said Solon High head coach Trish Kruse. "She will do whatever it takes to help her team be successful. Whether it's hitting a big shot or running into a wall to save a possession, if it helps the team, she will do it."
