The 5-foot-7, 125-pound senior won the state meet this past season with a time of 16:21.91, breaking the tape 22.83 seconds ahead of his next-closest competitor and leading the Mustangs to a fifth-place finish as a team. Otero won seven of nine races on the season with no one coming within 10 seconds of him in any of his victories.
Otero has maintained a 3.46 GPA in the classroom. He remains undecided upon a collegiate destination.
Otero has volunteered locally as a youth running coach.
