The state’s returning Gatorade Player of the Year, the 6-foot-2, 245-pound senior throwing talent broke his own meet record in the shot put this past season with a mark of 63 feet, 7 inches at the Division 3 state meet, leading the Red Raiders to a second straight team title. Marcell also won the discus event at the state meet for the second straight year. His season-best effort in the shot of 69-1 at the DC Everest Boys Invitational ranked No. 2 nationally among prep boys competitors this spring, while his throw of 212-0 at the same meet in the discus ranked No. 4 nationally. Marcell took silver in the discus event at the USATF Under-20 Championships earlier this month to earn All-American status. He holds the state record in the discus of 220-8, which ranks No. 10 in prep history.
Marcell has maintained a 3.47 GPA in the classroom. He has signed a written letter of athletic aid to compete at the University of Oklahoma this fall.
Marcell has volunteered locally on behalf of elderly neighbors by cutting firewood, mowing lawns and shoveling snow. He has also donated his time as a youth track coach.
