The 6-foot-2, 210-pound junior throws specialist set meet records in both the discus and shot put at the Division 3 state meet this past season, leading the Red Raiders to the team title. Marcell’s winning mark of 211 feet, 4 inches in the discus outdistanced his next-closest competitor by 47 feet. He set a state record in the discus a week earlier at the Division 3 Stratford Regional Meet with a throw of 220-8, which ranked No. 2 nationally among prep boys competitors this spring. His personal-best shot put effort of 61-6.5 at the Marawood Conference Meet ranked No. 80 nationally.
Marcell has maintained a 3.45 GPA in the classroom. He will begin his senior year of high school this fall.
Marcell has volunteered locally on behalf of elderly neighbors, cutting firewood, mowing lawns and shoveling snow. He has also donated his time as a youth track coach.
